Registered Nurse ( Nursing Informatics)
The Nursing informatics facilitates the integration of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom to support patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision-making in all roles and settings. This support is accomplished through the use of information structures, processes, and technology. The RN must be poised and articulate in communicating with all personnel and willing to work cooperatively as a member of a team. The RN makes caring for the Veteran the priority and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work. Position in nursing informatics require flexibility in assignments, roles and schedules as the department covers TVHS in its entirety. All positions in the department may require cross coverage between roles and travel between campuses. The Nursing Informatics role is accountable and responsible for knowledge of clinical computer software application programs including, but not limited to:
CPRS, VA Decision Support System, VA Nursing Outcomes Database, National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators, VHA Support Service Center, Bar Code Medication Administration, and how they ore applied to patient care delivery and documentation. This includes the development, support, and evaluation of applications, tools and processes that assist nurses with the management of data in direct care. This can involve any or all aspects of the system life cycle; theory formulation, design, development, marketing, acquisition, testing, implementation, training, maintenance, evaluation, and future enhancement. The RN is engaged in clinical practice, education, consultation, research, and administration throughout the facility. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. Work Schedule:

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Certification from a national informatics certifying body is preferred. The Informatics Nurse possesses an expert understanding of clinical treatment modalities, organization and administration of the VA Healthcare delivery systems, educational principles, clinical information systems, accreditation/regulatory standards, and program development. Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. All applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position. Must be able to lift (30 lbs or more); twisting and/or bending, standing. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. The incumbent must complete all annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB Screening or testing, as a condition of employment.
