The Lead Housekeeping Aid will lead up to four teams consisting of two or three employees depending on the tours of duty to accomplish environmental sanitation by using hand and powered equipment to perform sweeping, scrubbing, refinishing floors, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures. As the Lead Housekeeping Aid, the incumbent will relay instructions received from supervisors and getting work started to his/her team members. The Lead will demonstrate proper work methods, procedures, use of supplies and equipment and ensure necessary supplies, tools, and equipment is available and ready for use. The Lead will check work in progress and when finished ensuring the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. The Lead will coordinate projects with nurses and other area supervisors to ensure efficient and economical accomplishment of work. Also, the Lead Housekeeping Aid will perform non-supervisory work that is usually the same kind and level as that done by the team. These duties may include, but are not limited to:
Stain removal, floor refinishing, trash collection/removal, wall/window/blind cleaning, light fixture cleaning, interior locker/furniture cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, interior terminal bed cleaning, furniture moving, equipment care and other housekeeping/linen duties as assigned; working in areas, which require special housekeeping techniques include, but not limited to Medical and Surgical Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Pulmonary Care, Hemodialysis, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Operating room suites, Recovery Room, Clinical Laboratory, IV Clean Room, compound pharmacy and Supply Processing and Distribution; and clean light fixtures, washes and replaces venetian blinds, hang drapes, washes windows, walls and ceilings; use industrial type powered cleaning equipment and maintains equipment in clean condition. Experience:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Incumbent usually works indoors in a medical center environment in areas which normally have adequate heat, light and ventilation. Worker is frequently exposed to caustic cleaning solutions, vibration from power equipment, and occasionally to serious injuries resulting from falls from ladders and scaffolds. Work involves frequent exposure to hazardous materials including infectious waste and chemotherapy waste materials. Special safety precautions and protective gear are required when handling these materials. Incumbent works around individuals who have health problems and is subject to exposure to strong cleaning solutions which may irritate skin, provoke allergic reactions, etc.
