The Chief Nurse (Nurse IV) assigned to Mental Health provides executive leadership for Mental Health programs and is responsible for ensuring the delivery of nursing care to patients, and the management of nursing personnel and resources in the Mental Health inpatient units 7A and 7B at the Alvin C. York campus in Murfreesboro, 4N at the Nashville campus, and Mental Health outpatient areas in MHICM, including the Substance Abuse Treatment Team and the Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP). In addition, provides leadership for the Medical units 1A and the Urgent Care Center on the Alvin C. York campus in Murfreesboro. Provides leadership in maintaining standards of nursing in accordance with system and Nursing Service policies, guidelines of the Department of Veterans Affairs accrediting organizations, and national nursing organizations. Collaborates with the Chief of Mental Health Service, Chief of Medicine Service and Associate Director for Patient Care Services to develop goals and objectives that support the strategic plan, meet the needs of the Veteran patients, satisfy staff, and result in positive clinical and administrative outcomes. Ensure services that enhance the Veteran experience while meeting their needs. Provide a positive Veteran experience by listening and engaging Veterans, and responding appropriately and timely to their concerns and needs. Minimum 3 or more years of demonstrated successful Chief Nurse or program management experience (i.e. Director of Nursing, Chief Nurse, Regional or National level clinical program executive, etc.) Experience with outpatient nursing staffing models and budgetary planning and execution Knowledge and experience with regulatory agencies (i.e. Joint Commission, CARF, OIG, CMS, etc.) Demonstrated success with employee engagement and retention Demonstrated success with utilization of evidence-based improvements in patient care outcomes and quality of care Work Schedule:

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates. Nurse IV - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 4-5 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and appropriate basic or advanced certification, and approximately 3-4 years of nursing practice/experience. Reference:

You must be able to perform work that requires regular and recurrent bending, lifting 30 pounds or more, stooping, climbing, twisting and/or bending, standing and/or walking almost constantly during the course of the day, reaching above the shoulder, stretching, and similar activities supporting various weights; walking and standing for 8 hours; frequent pushing medication carts, wheelchairs, litters, beds; use of fingers, both hands and both legs; emotional stability (you must be able to care for Veterans with various medical and psychiatric illnesses who at times may exhibit unpredictable behavior and may have the potential to be physically or verbally assaultive); near vision correctable at 13 to 16 / far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and to 20/100 in the other / both eyes required with ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing aid permitted in order to sufficiently hear various alarms and respond immediately. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
